New Alexander Technique practice opens in Heaton Moor
The Alexander Technique is rapidly becoming the method of choice
to help people in pain or with bad posture, by picking up simple
and practical ways to improve ease and freedom of movement, balance,
co-ordination - and generally improve personal confidence. Now The
Alexander Technique is readily available in Heaton Moor, Stockport.
James Crow was a successful project manager for a leading computing
company devising top level systems for large businesses when he
began to suffer from RSI. It became so painful he was no longer
able to work or even drive his car and had to give up his career.
After months of trying different therapies it was not until a Harley
Street consultant recommended he tried the Alexander Technique to
relieve the pain, that he started to realise it really did make
a difference - and he should pass on this knowledge to help others
with similar problems. After several years studying techniques throughout
the UK and overseas, he has settled in Heaton Moor, deciding that
lively Stockport is the best place to open his practice.
He describes the technique:
"FM Alexander was a Shakespearean actor who developed problems
with his voice. After doctors informed him they could find no cause
for this, he carefully observed himself in multiple mirrors and
realised that he was needlessly stiffening his whole body in preparation
to recite or speak. He used his observations to develop what is
now known as the 'Alexander Technique' – a form of education that
enables us to overcome reactive, habitual limitations in movement
and thinking."
"In many ways I am pleased I fell ill with RSI," says
James, "as I would not have found the Alexander Technique otherwise
– until recently so few people had heard of it as it has to be experienced
to appreciate it. This gave me an opportunity to really change for
the better, now I am pain-free and full of energy and get much more
pleasure out of life. Fortunately for me, I was also able to train
full-time for three years to teach the technique to others.
"I am so pleased to be able to use these methods help many
people to overcome back pain, RSI and postural problems. The benefits
are many - not only am I teaching patients to regain control of
their body to alleviate pain, improve posture and performance -
but I am also able to help people with how they feel about themselves,
improving their personal confidence, image and appearance, which
can help in the workplace, in stressful situations, and with acting
and performance."
